“Because a great body is the best revenge”: Revenge Body and Postfeminist Revenge
Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian is a reality program that invites participants to get their “best revenge” through a fitness and makeover-based self-transformation. Situating Revenge Body as an object of postfeminist media culture, I examine the way that transformation through revenge is constructed in the program. Drawing from previous feminist scholarship on reality television transformations and fitness culture, I argue that Revenge Body produces a particular brand of “postfeminist revenge” that relies on the logics of neoliberalism and postfeminism to legitimize this transformative process as a means of revenge. This work seeks to question what is at stake when the body is itself is the site of and a means for revenge, and better understand the boundaries of justice through revenge in neoliberal and postfeminist contexts.
